Cinque Terre, Italy · 2018

Five towns strung along the cliffs, and you get between them by train or on foot. We did both. The walking is the good part, one painted village dropping behind you and the next one climbing up out of the rock ahead. And then the sea. We swam in the Ligurian Sea. The water was so buoyant it held me up without trying – the whole coast asking me to float. Warm light, cold blue, colored houses stacked on stone. I have never been anywhere quite like it.
