Some of the best rooms in Paris ask you to look up, or through, or down at your own feet. A staircase that ends at a lamp. A clock you can stand behind. A vault holding up nothing but itself. A mosaic floor cut by a blade of light. In each of them, I kept finding the same move: framing the city or the light through the architecture rather than shooting it head-on. Stone, iron, glass, and a way through.
