DENNIS JENDERS
Venice, Italy · 2018
I fell in love with Venice. Not the postcard version, the real one. We stayed off the tourist track as much as we could, talked to the people who actually live there, and ate where they ate. You hear how much of that is slipping away, how the city is becoming pizza, pasta, and gelato for people passing through.
But it is still there if you look. The canals, the back alleys, the glass, the graffiti, the light coming off the water at dinner. The whole place feels like something made. It has stood for centuries as the water rises around it, and it remains one of the most beautiful cities I have seen. One of the first cities I truly fell in love with.
